Windy Post well known landmark near the infamous Vixen Tor. The cross is 7ft in height and has arms of 2ft 3inches. It is unique in Dartmoor crosses in being chamfered and is thought to be from the 15th or 16th century. Its purpose was to serve as a waymark or guidepost. It probably helped the wool farming monks of Tavistock when they crossed Dartmoor. The origin of the name is lost now, but to anyone venturing up there, windypost is a name it certainly lives up to.
